Live blogging and sports

I’ll be live blogging today about what I’m doing and things I think about sports. Enjoy! Remember to keep checking in throughout the day as I update the blog with more tidbits.

11:02 a.m. - Willie Parker broke his leg. I’d say the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl hopes are now ruined, but they were ruined a long time ago when Tomlin decided to make Pittsburgh a pass-first, run-second team. Sidenote: Pettey and I picked Willie Parker with the 6th pick in our fantasy draft and got mocked for passing on Frank Gore. As always, we were right.

11:12 a.m. - They just showed a hockey highlight on Sportscenter in the first 15 minutes. That’s ridiculous. Hockey belongs at the end with off-season golf, European basketball, and a rant from Sean Salisbury.

11:23 a.m. - So Jonathan Papelbon claims that the ball he had from the final out in the World Series got “eaten by his dog”. I find it shocking that anyone actually believes this. If anyone in that house ate the ball, it was probably Papelbon himself.

11:31 a.m. - 31 minutes into Sportscenter until Jessica Simpson got mentioned. God I hate this story. She has nothing to do with the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Romo’s performance on the field. However, there is a gambling website where you can bet on how long the Simpson/Romo relationship will last. 6 to 1 odds that it’s over within the next 3 months. Pettey put his Christmas bonus on it.

12:20 p.m. - On ESPN 2’s “First and 10″, the two debaters were asked a question: “Which injury hurt’s his team more - Jeremy Shockey’s or Willie Parker’s?”  Skip Bayless gave a truly insightful answer with one word, “Neither.”  What???  That doesn’t even make sense.

Best Upcoming Sports Events

We here at www.ticketsofamerica.com have decided to make the “Best Upcoming Sports Events” a monday morning staple.  Much of our audience is a little hazy on Mondays, feeling a little depressed, and looking for anything in life worth living for.  Although we can’t help you with the personal issues you are clearly going through, we can offer a ray of sunshine in the form of sports.  Here are a few things going on soon that you need to be alive and well to watch. If you have other events going on, post ‘em up in the comments….

New England Patriots at Dallas Cowboys (October 14, 4:15 p.m.)

This matchup is why we love football season.  It’s as wonderful as winning a free happy hour at your favorite bar and by some fluke chance, “Girls Gone Wild” shows up and asks you to hold the camera.  Conversely, Monday night’s Bills/Cowboys game is like getting kicked out of Bennigan’s for drinking too much Pabst Blue Ribbon and puking on a family of six.

TCU at Stanford (October 13, 5:00 p.m.)

Stanford looks to regroup this week against TCU as they barely squeeked out a win against USC this past Saturday at the last second.

NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at Charlotte (October 13, 7:30 p.m.)

Oscar Wilde once said “Life imitates art far more than art imitates life.”  I doubt that he had a movie such as “Talladega Nights” in mind when he said this, but what’s going on in NASCAR these days is downright eerie.  Yesterday, a French Formula One champion (Jacques Villeneuve) made his debut in NASCAR at Talladega and a good ol’ country boy NASCAR hero (Jeff Gordon) was really pissed off about it.  I’ve never watched NASCAR in my life, but I’m tuning in on Saturday night to see if Villeneuve tries to kiss Jeff Gordon on the lips.

NHL Regular Season (all week)

Just like preseason hockey, except that it effects their records.

Best Upcoming Sports Events

MLB Playoffs

So MLB.com has it slated that the NL playoffs will be the Cubs versus the Diamondbacks and the Phillies versus the Padres/Rockies……We’re not sure how the MLB is allowing these two teams to join forces against the Phillies, but I for one belive it is unfair.

Monday Night Football (ESPN)

Not really sure who’s playing in this matchup, but I can’t wait to see what Disney will think of next to shamelessly promote their movies during the broadcast.  I don’t want to give anything away, but the halftime show involves the Rock, Simba, and a cage match.

The Gillete Champions Commercial

It is worth watching TV 24 hours a day just to catch this commercial.  The ad features Roger Federer, Thierry Henry, and Tiger Woods promoting Gillette’s new Fusion Power razor.  Not sure if anyone in America knows who Henry is, but the real story is the ending.  Federer reaches out to and touches Tiger Woods’ cheek and Woods looks totally freaked out by it.  Must be a French thing.

Anaheim at Columbus, Preseason Hockey (PRLA)

Not sure what kind of sports package you get with your cable company, but call up and demand the station PRLA!!! This is more than just an uninteresting hockey game with no significance at all in the universe, it’s also a battle for crappiest town in America.

Gardner-Webb at Appalachian State

App. State is taking on their biggest challenge yet, playing against the sick lovechild of Rod Gardner and Brandon Webb.  Both Gardner and Webb have had long streaks in their respective sports playing without any scoring being involved, so if I were a betting man, I’d take the under in this game.

Lakers Media Day

Will Kobe show up? Will Kwame Brown get injured on the way up to the podium?  Does Phil Jackson announce that he is divorcing Jerry Buss’s daughter after having an affair with Mitch Kupchak’s mother?  Are there really going to be 43 candles on Derek Fisher’s birthday cake? What does Jack Nicholson think of it all????
