The New York Yankees start today a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium as two teams heading in opposing directions square off in interleague play.
The struggling Reds (33-41) will try to break a five-game losing streak as they travel to the Bronx to face the surging New York Yankees (40-33), who have won seven in a row and eight of their last 10 games.
The Reds have won just three of their last 10 games and are coming off a three-game sweep at home at the hands of the Dodgers, who have lost just one of eight against Cincinnati this season.
The game tonight features righties Edinson Volquez (9-2) against Mike Mussina (10-4). Mussina (3.87 ERA) has won his last five starts and is 9-1 in his last 11 outings, while Volquez (1.64 ERA) leads the league with 105 strikeouts and has a 4-1 record in his last seven road starts.
This will be the first time these two teams teams meet at Yankee Stadium since the 1976 World Series when the Reds swept the Bronx Bombers. The last time they met during the regular season was at Cincinnati in June 2003 when the Yankees lost two of three.
The Reds have yet to announce who will pitch against Dan Giese on Saturday, but on Sunday Johny Cueto (5-7) of the Reds will go against Andy Pettitte (7-5), who has won his last two starts.
