Name: Fernando Alonso
Birthday: July 29, 1981
Team: Renault
Country: Spain
Podiums: 49
F1 Titles: 2
In 2005 he claimed the drivers’ crown with two races left to run and became the youngest title holder in Formula One history. A second successive title -deservedly won at Michael Schumacher’s expense during the German’s final season- served to bear out Alonso’s position as the vanguard of a new generation.
For 2007 he moved to McLaren and finished level on points with teammate Lewis Hamilton at season’s end. They were beaten to the title by a single point by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. His relationship with the team grew increasingly strained, particularly after his evidence helped condemn the team in the Ferrari ‘spy scandal’ affair.
