Right when it looked like the Houston Rockets were getting it together, they get hit with that all too familiar injury bug. It seems like Yao Ming will now miss the reast of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. This is just terrible as I don’t see Houston being able to survive in the West without Yao. With the trade deadline already come and gone this is a huge blow to McGrady and the Rockets.
After winning twelve in a row, the Rockets really showing they were going to be one of the teams to deal with this postseason. With the loss of Yao, the Rockets don’t stand a chance against the powers of the West. They need his presence to compete with the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, and San Antonio Spurs. A real dissappointment for a team that really seemed to have found its stride.
Even though they were able to beat the Washington Wizards and win their 13th straight basketball game I don’t expect this team winning streak to last much longer. For more on this injury and it’s repercussions for the Rockets I share with you a PTI video by ESPN:
If you are a tennis fan you will find this very useful. Here’s a list of the tournaments the ATP tour holds during the month of March. Of this month’s tournaments the one with the biggest prize is the Sony Ericsson Open with a purse of $3.77 million.
The Associated Press reported that the Chicago Bears and quarterback Kyle Orton agreed Monday on a one-year contract extension that runs through the 2009 season, setting up a competition between him and quarterback Rex Grossman.
The deal comes two days after Chicago re-signed Grossman to a one-year contract and said he would compete for the starting quarterback job with Orton.
In three seasons, Orton is 12-6 as a starter and has the fourth-highest winning percentage among Bears quarterbacks with at least 16 starts since 1961. He spent most of last season as the third-stringer behind Grossman and QB Brian Griese, and had mixed results while starting the final three football games.
Simpson and Romo started dating In Novemer of 2007. This would be the second wedding for Simpson as she was married for four years to singer Nick Lachey, whom she divorced in 2006.
Many Cowboys fans are probably not to happy to hear the news as many still resent the poor performance that Romo had on a December 16, 2007 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, when Simpson was in attendance. Many fans consider that Simpson jinxes Romo and affects his on-field performance negatively.
This argument may seem ridiculous and I don’t take it seriously. In fact, I think that Cowboys fan are just venting their frustration on her and seeing Simpson as a scapegoat, but unfortunately their notion was further reinforced when the Cowboys lost to the New York Giants in the divisional playoffs, after Romo & Simpson went on a trip to Mexico during the NFL Wild Card game bye-week.
Now that the star quarterback seems decided to marry Simpson you can’t help but wonder how this will affect the Cowboys tickets sales. One things for sure, Simpson will undoubtedly not be a welcome sight at Dallas Stadium any time soon. If next season she wants to attend any of her sweetheart’s games she’d better wear a disguise to enter the stadium undercover and take some bodyguards with her.

Just before the trade deadline expired the Cleveland Cavaliers managed to pull of a three-team, 11-player megatrade that allowed Cleveland to land center Ben Wallace and forward Joe Smith from the Chicago Bulls, and forward Wally Szczerbiak and guard Delonte West from the Seattle SuperSonics. The Cavs also received Chicago’s second-round pick in the 2009 draft.
The Chicago Bulls acquired from Cleveland guards Larry Hughes and Shannon Brown and forwards Drew Gooden and Cedric Simmons. As for the SuperSonics they received forwards Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall from Cleveland and guard/forward Adrian Griffin from the Bulls.
Spurs add gritty defender who can guard big bodies and seem poised for title run
So the San Antonio Spurs finally did it, they gave in to the pressure and made a trade to get bigger and be better suited to face centers Pau Gasol of the L.A Lakers and Shaquille O’neal of the Phoenix Suns. This was a no-brainer. It was obvious that the Spurs had to do something no matter how confident they were about their actual roster. They didn’t have many holes in their team but they just could not stand still as they kept seeing their biggest opponents grow larger each day.
So now, it was the Spurs’ turn. In the deal San Antonio acquired veteran forward Kurt Thomas from the Seattle SuperSonics on Wednesday night for guard Brent Barry, center Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round draft pick.
The Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday completed a trade to get point guard Jason Kidd from the New Jersey Nets. After Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns revamped themselves with Pau Gasol and Shaquille O’neal respectively it was obvious the Mavericks had to do something just to keep pace, but if Mavericks fans are thinking that this move puts their team above the Lakers, Suns, or even defending champion San Antonio Spurs they are going to be disappointed.
Here’s the deal: in exchange for the 35-year-old Kidd Dallas sent to the the Nets point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, swingman Maurice Ager, forward Trenton Hassell, retired forward Keith Van Horn, $three million in cash and the first-round draft picks this June and in 2010. As part of the trade the Nets also sent forward Malik Allen and swingman Antoine Wright to Dallas. Read more

Many rumors have been heard since those trades as to whom could be next player sent to a championship contender in the loaded Western Conference, where just getting into the plyoffs is going to be a daunting task, but none of them have actually taken place.
To help counter the effect of those marquee trades moves like Ben Wallace from the Chicago Bulls to the Utah Jazz have been mentioned, but probably the potential trade everyone keeps talking about is that of point guard Jason Kidd going from the New Jersey Nets to the Mavericks. Read more
