With a record breaking contract quarterback rookie JaMarcus Russell has finally signed for Oakland, ending his hold out with the Raiders.
Russell who is the top pick for this years NFL draft had hold off the signing of the contract until a better deal was offered to him. This had made him unavailable for the Raiders Sunday’s season opener in which the Oakland lost 36 – 21 at home against Detroit.
It had been reported that the six years contract agreed for Russell is worth $61m, with a guaranteed $29m. The Oakland Raiders had been ranked amongst the worst offense in recent years. “It’s been a long time and I can’t wait to get out there,” he said.
Josh McCown was quarterback for the game against the Detroit Lions, and veteran Daunte Culpepper is expected to start against Denver this weekend.
After that, Russell could get his chance.
He posted a 25-4 record as Louisiana State University’s starting quarterback, throwing for 3,129 yards and 28 touchdowns last season.
