If her performance thus far in 2007 is any indication, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia should be a favorite to compete for the 2007 Tennis US Open title.
The 19-year-old Serb and fifth ranked female player has participated in three US Opens, but has yet to advance beyond the third round. However, Ivanovic was a semifinalist at Wimbledon, the last Grand Slam, and a runner-up at the 2007 French Open. In London, she lost in two sets to top female player Justine Henin, while in Paris she lost to Venus Williams in the semifinals also in two sets.
Ivanovic has come a long ways since she first began playing tennis at age 5. She was introduced to the game by watching televised matches, especially those involving Monica Seles.
In 2004, Ivanovic landed in the top 100, jumping 608 spots, the biggest jump of any player that year. That same year, she reached the final at the Junior Wimbledon tournament, capturing the attention of the tennis world. However, 2005 would be her breakthrough season. As a qualifier, she won her first tour singles title at Canberra in 2005.
In 2006, she captured her second and biggest tour singles title at Tier 1 Montreal as No. 13 seed, clinching a US Open Series victory. Ivanovic says she likes all surfaces and considers the forehand her best shot.
She born November 6, 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia and currently resides in the same city.
In her career, she has won 111 matches and lost 48. Her record in 2007 is 41-13. She has earned a total of $2,680,423 in prize money and $1,464,133 in 2007.
