Roger Federer could make history at US Open

The most dominant tennis player in the 21st century will compete for an unprecedented fourth straight US Open title.

With a tournament win in 2007, Roger Federer would surpass tennis greats John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl.

Last year, Federer defeated American Andy Roddick in four sets to win championship number three. Since his tournament debut in 2000, the 26-year-old Swiss has participated in seven U.S. Opens.

Federer has won 11 Grand Slam titles, three shy of American tennis great Pete Sampras’ record of 14. He´s claimed three Australian Opens, five straight Wimbledons, and three consecutive US Opens. A French Open championship is the only title that evades him.

The 2007 US Open will be played August 27 – September 9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

The winners of the men and women’s singles tournaments, respectively, will earn a cool $1.4 million. Each champion could earn an extra $1 million based on his or her performance in the US Open Tennis Series.

Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland and resides in Oberwil Switzerland.
He has won a total of 523 matches with 131 losses and has earned $32, 840,078 in total prize money.
