My 12-Hour Bout

De La Hoya/Mayweather - that was a long fight, the longest in boxing history, wasn’t it? This is really how long the fight lasted for me - not 12 rounds but 12 hours!

The bout started at 9 a.m.; bell rings, and here I go. Starts slow, carefully reviewing my inventory, seating location and any other important details to make sure the bout goes smoother. After an amazing marketing push from our great staff here at Tickets of America, we kept our reps busy in Vegas handing out tickets to all of our clients.

Early on, I’m working on Joe and Nick’s tickets. Budget and seating issues made their tickets hard to find, but after a couple hours, they were taken care of. Nick, on the other token, had to wait a little more. His request was for 5 tickets altogether, a feat hard to accomplish a few hours before the fight when our inventory is flying off the roof!

So far, everything’s going great, outstanding coordination from our reps all over the place. Afternoon comes and those VIP NFL players start calling. Darnell Dockett wants some great seats down low. No problem! He’s next to Denzel. Have a great fight! Pizza time, quickly swallowing slices of pepperoni… Nick’s on my mind, and he calls again with a different request - seven tickets together now.

Had four, soon to get the last one, now I’m scratching for two more…We’re never sold out! Inventory moving as we go along, boss working his magic at the MGM, customers picking up tickets throughout the day. Five hours ’til the fight. Down to the wire. Inventory grows.

We gotta get all tickets out. Sell or die! I’m wearing out. Kyle! Your client wants four more. Rush rush!

Phone keeps on ringing. Nick’s on the phone again. His request changes. Now he wants four at a different location which we have in our inventory, but he decides not to purchase them until he finds out if his fifth buddy makes up his mind. As I’m talking to Nick, I let him know about the urgency of purchasing the tickets soon. Demand grows as we’re three hours before the bout.

Nick calls back an hour later, his tickets were given to a different client and our inventory is almost sold-out.

Nick’s panicking now, an hour and a half before show time. My boss makes a couple of calls, and Nick’s in section U8 with his buddies. Nick calls again and asks me out on a date. Wow!

I know selling tickets is fun, but I don’t want it to be extracurricular fun… 9pm - De La Hoya and Mayweather are in the ring. MGM Grand at full capacity. Inventory knocked out, and the referee calls the bout. Over! Inventory Knockout in the 12th Hour. Great work staff! Training and preparation paid off.

Do you know if there is going to be a rematch for that fight? It was fixed.

There will definitely be a rematch. I can guarantee you that. Too much money was made for this fight, and you know how it is in boxing or in anything for that matter. If you were involved in this fight in any shape or form, you will definitely make sure a rematch will happen. Can you imagine what the rematch will bring? It can a least match this fight.
