The Rocket’s Back

Biggest news last week in baseball, and my blog junkies know I had to write about it! Yes, Clemens is back in pinstripes as we all learned with his live announcement at Yankee Stadium. The crowd went wild as Clemens proclaimed “I will see you all very soon.”

That quote alone drove fans to ticket offices, and with no surprise, Yankees tickets are starting to move once again here at Tickets of America. But should Yankee nation go crazy about this announcement? On one hand, the Yankees’ dismal start this season was a reason for concern, and a starter was desperately needed. The future Hall of Fame split finger fast baller will come in to do just that. Yankees are hoping that Clemens will stabilize the pitching rotation and help out his fellow pitchers. But will he do just that? Turning 45 on August 4, can Clemens sustain his great pitching form? Was the $4.5 million a month contract a good investment?

Clemens is a great addition to any pitching staff even at 45 years old. What he did for the Astros last year was amazing, and he proved that he can still pitch at a high level. With no immediate solid pitching available out there, it was a no-brainer for Steinbrenner and Co. But did the Yanks act too soon? That’s up for debate. I personally think Clemens’ addition will not make the impact the brass is hoping for.

If the Yanks come back to their winning ways in the near future, as they usually do, it will be because of their high-octane line-up (as they swept Texas last week) not because of Clemens. I still think they need another arm, and they will have a chance to get it by trade. Clemens alone will not solve the pitching troubles, but we’ll see if Clemens can take the Yankees back to their first World Series in 7 years.
